| T. E. Lawrence Society Symposium
2008 Booking information
Please read the notes
on this page before booking
The
Symposium will take place at St. John's College, Oxford, on 26-28
September 2008.
The price of
each day's sessions is £24.00, to include tea/coffee as shown in the
programme and the sherry party on Saturday evening.
Payment
A deposit of £30 is payable on booking (or £24 if booking for
the Friday sessions only). This is refundable on cancellation up to
1 August 2008, subject to deduction of a £5 administration fee.
The balance
of the symposium cost must be paid in full by 12 August 2008.
If you pay
by card, £30 will be charged on booking and the balance charged on
12 August 2008.
Meals and accommodation
For your convenience, the symposium
offers meals and accommodation in St. John's College. The society
charges for this at cost, and the price of bed and breakfast in a
college room is hard to beat in central Oxford. In our experience,
the rooms are well presented, and most members of the society
attending the symposium opt to stay in college. If you prefer,
however, you can book accommodation elsewhere, or travel to Oxford
daily. If you do not wish to eat in college at lunchtime, there are
many restaurants, pubs, cafes and sandwich bars within easy walking
distance.
Travel to Oxford
We strongly advise against
travelling to Oxford by car unless you arrange somewhere to park in
advance. There is no parking available at St. John's College.
Parking in Oxford's side-streets is reserved for residents. Oxford
City Council offer a range of car-park options, and is currently
investing in sophisticated CCTV security systems at its popular Park & Ride car
parks. All Oxford car parks are open 24/7, except for Gloucester
Green (which offers high overnight security, but is expensive).
Nearer the time, we will provide people attending the symposium with
an up-to-date parking fact-sheet.
Oxford is
readily accessible by train and coach. We suggest taking a taxi from
Oxford railway station to St. John's College. If you have wheeled
luggage, you may feel that Oxford bus station is within walking
distance. For a map of central Oxford showing the railway and bus
stations and St. John's College (No. 36) see:

A small
number of parking spaces are available at the relatively secure
Gloucester Green car park. Cars can be left overnight, but if you
wish to use this car park you must book in advance. See:
