Ford Park Cemetery Trust
A
SPECIAL ceremony is being held on Monday, February
4, 2008 at Ford Park Cemetery to dedicate the graves
of two young airmen who perished when an Iris flying
boat from No 209 Squadron at Mount Batten crashed.
This ceremony is taking place on the anniversary of
this tragedy which happened in 1931.
Until now the graves of Flying Officer Wood and
Leading Aircraftman Rutledge were unmarked, which
the Trustees of Ford Park Cemetery thought was wrong
and took steps to put right.
The Trust approached the Commonwealth War Graves
Commission which has generously donated a Portland
stone marker with the RAF badge inscribed on it.
Martin and Son, stonemasons, inscribed the marker
free of charge and the Trust, using its own mason,
has combined the two graves into one long grave with
the Portland stone marker at the head.
Ford Park Cemetery Trust would like through your
paper to invite anyone with an interest or
connection with the RAF at Mount Batten to get in
touch with us if they would like to attend this
event.
Those who would like to attend can contact the
cemetery office on 01752 665442.
